MATH FACTS
The biggest focus in third grade is the learning and practicing of math facts. They are the foundation of solid math understanding. If a reader does not have a broad recognition of words, they are unable to comprehend the ideas presented in a text. Similarly, if a student is not fluent in their use of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, their understanding of mathematical concepts will be greatly diminished. In third grade, we will review addition and subtraction facts, but, as it is expected that mastery of those facts has been attained by the end of second grade third grade will focus primarily on the understanding and use multiplication. Our school district works closely with Dr. Mahesh Sharma, an expert in the field of best practices for teaching mathematics. We utilize many of his methods in our daily instruction of math. |
